When the nation’s top chiropractic organizations teamed up with Prevention Magazine to honor six U.S. doctors with the Chiropractic Award of Excellence, they chose Dr. Schantz. He was selected to represent the pinnacle of community service and clinical excellence for the Southeast.
 
Dr. Schantz was also honored by the Georgia Chiropractic Association as Humanitarian of the Year - a distinction shared with former President Jimmy Carter. This award was in recognition of Dr. Schantz establishing a volunteer chiropractic position at Mercy System Healthcare. He also volunteers his time with Flying Doctors of America, an organization which sends doctors to third-world countries to administer free healthcare to people in need.

Dr. Schantz graduated with honors in 1986 from the nation’s leading chiropractic school, the National College of Chiropractic in Chicago. He has completed post-graduate seminars at Harvard Medical School on low back pain and sciatica, and he is certified in Cox Decompression Adjustment and Manipulation.

Each year Dr. Schantz exceeds the continuing education requirements for licensure by further enhancing his knowledge of sports injuries, neurology, herbal medicine and other aspects of patient care. 

In addition to serving as clinical director of Leading Edge Sport and Spine since 1992, Dr. Schantz assists the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners each year in administering a practical exam to judge the competency of recent graduates pending licensure. He is the only Certified Cox Distraction Practitioner in North Atlanta to perform a non-surgical disk decompression method. He also serves as a consultant to major Atlanta employers to reduce job-related back injuries and repetitive stress injuries
